The Tour - Part 1

Up at 4:30 after a wonderful nights sleep at the Backpackers Ritz...

The Ritz it was not, and wonderful night it was not. Sleeping in a dorm of 12 is not recommended if you're hostel virgins!! We were in bunks sleeping in sleeping bags (not sure about the sheets) and didn't get to sleep until about midnight - basically, you can't think about sleep until the last person comes to bed, and then you have to be the first to drop off, before the snoring contest begins!! Got revenge when our alarm went off at 4:30 ;)

We drove pretty much all day - starting from J'burg, we saw our first South African sun rise. We met the rest of the gang in Limpopo, before heading on through the Botswana border. Then saw our first Botswana Sunset. Set up camp just before dark, then on our way to the bar, saw the first animal of our tour - the Bushbaby. However, not even this cute little critter could raise the spirits of the Auzzies who were obviously saddened to hear (in Dutch) about Steve.

BTW - the gang: Deer farmers from NZ - Mike & Anthea; Honeymooners from Oz - Sally & Scott, Belinda & Aaron; Driver - Jimmy; Guide - Miles

Day 2 was more of the same really - our first Botswana sunrise, crossed over to Zambia, and saw our first Zambian sunset...

Picture the drive - there are 8 of us tourists, each with a day bag, crammed, and we mean crammed into this poxy 8 seater Kia combi (minibus). There was one bit of leg room - this was taken by the cool box / ice box / eski. There was some music playing curtosey of the honeymooners iPods - I think this included some Britney & Robbie!! We saw our first game today - Elephants and a giraffe on the side of the road ;-D

We got to the Waterfront camp site just after lunch - booked some fun stuff to do for tmrw, sprayed on some mozzi repellant and then jumped on the booze cruise. We saw our first Zambian sunset from a boat on the Zambezi, with Hippos in the water, an elephant on the bank (it's a boy;) and some crocs about to cause mischief. What a great way to end two days in the car, and get ready for the adventures to follow in Victoria Falls...........
