WA - Perth

The trek to Coolibah was our worst yet with our bags. We had to catch a bus from the train stn, but the stop was 5 mins walk away. The first bus then refused to let us on with our (six) bags, and the next 10 mins later just let us on, but being rush hour, it was rammed and it was a real struggle getting off!! We then had a 10 min walk (probably 2 without baggage) to the hostel. The funny thing was, the hostel does pickups and probably would have met us from the train station ;) Ev did suggest this, and is still a bit bitter about this today ;)

As this was after our 25km cycle, we were a bit tired, and very glad the hostel was so nice. We had our own sink and fridge, and only 1 neighbour, which was luxury for a hostel ;) This place was really well set out, and had a good vibe to it – it was much better than Nomads!! Thanks Andrew & Jodie for the tip, and we only wish Marc had remembered earlier.

The hostel suggested we go to the local curry house for dinner – it was a vegetarian curry buffet. It was something a bit different, and was really good… for Marc. Ev wasn’t so keen as it was pretty spicy food, so she mainly had poppadoms and lots of water ;) For a curry lover though, this was great, and despite the lack of meat, it was still nice. There were half a dozen dishes to choose from and they were all great!!

Next day we headed to the Museum of Western Australia which was informative, and then we headed to Kings Park for a bit of a walk. The broadwalk was now open, so we got some more good views of the city. It was a nice way to spend our last afternoon in WA.

We ended up walking back home as the traffic was so bad, the CAT (bus) was late and nowhere to be seen. We grabbed a Domino’s for dinner, and chilled out by the TV and then discovered how to get free use of the computers – shame it was our last day ;)

In summary, Perth was really nice and from what we saw would be a nice place to live, as long as you can handle the flies! It has a small CBD so everything is easy to get to, free buses, nice beaches, bands play at the pubs, and the forest is only just down the road. People here are also really friendly, and we would recommend Perth / Freo and in fact Western Australia to everyone. We could come back here as there is so much we didn’t see – the Nigaloo reef 18hrs drive away, Esperance pink lakes, and more of Margaret River ;)
