NSW - Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year!

Very slow start this morning, and once we were able to get ourselves up and dressed we headed into the town to get some greasy burgers and made a beeline for a small secluded beach close to the flat, at which point we all just lay there and soaked up the sun for most of the afternoon. A nice way to bring in the New Year;)

We then decided to get a really large boost juice to try to revive ourselves. For dinner we managed to go out for a Chinese meal and then watched the dodgy Rage dvd that Ev bought Marc for Chrissy – lucky enough it didn’t cost her much ;)

Now that we have recovered from the New Years celebrations (Marc still has his cold), we headed into the city for a tour of the Opera House.

There is a lot of history about the architect and the politics surrounding the building and construction – A competition was launched to find the design of the opera house. This was won by Jorn Utzon. However, he went over budget and over time so was sacked when the exterior was finished in 1955, taking his interior designs with him. The interior was completed by someone else and went even more over budget!! There are actually 5 theatres, and the two main theatres are a lot smaller than you’d think, after seeing the outside, and the largest only houses about 1500 people. They are still pretty impressive.

Went for a walk around the botanical gardens, and found loads of fruit bats in the trees, this was really amazing to see as there were so many of them. On our way home we got some ice-cream from Copenhagen Ice-cream Co. before catching the ferry home to make some spag bol for the guys.

Poor Marc’s cold is not getting any better which is resulting to him snoring so loudly that Ev has thought a lot about moving into the lounge to sleep on the couch ;)

With the weather not being great today we walked around Manly and then to Shelly beach (where Scott & Sally got married). We then took a walk up to the viewpoint at the top of the hill.

As it started raining we ended up at a little coffee shop and started our research and planning of our New Zealand leg. Even though we are travelling and not needing to go to work everyday, the research is by far the most tedious part of our journey. There is a lot of effort that has to go into it and it takes up quite a lot of our time ;)

We met up with Scott & Sally for dinner at The Steyn for really great pizza
