After our walk, we were a bit tired, and it was so hot, that we couldn't do much else but sit by the pool (in the shade;). Evelyn found a nice big wasps nest in the toilets - these wasps are black and about twice the size of UK wasps. Nasty little buggers!!
When it got cool enough to emerge from the shade we went for a walk to one of the lookouts to have one final view of the rocks at sunset.
We were lucky enough to be the only ones there... or so we thought as just before the sun went down a group of travel workers came and joined us.
The views we got that evening were just as great as the evening before and once the show had finished we decided it best to get going as it was a long walk back to the bus stop (the view point was by the workers camp and the buses didn't come near here). We ended up making our own tracks through the bush (as it was dark and we couldn't see the proper track) and just kept heading for the lights - thankfully we didn't come across any snakes or other nasties.
The next morning we chatted to some locals and they weren't too thrilled to hear we climbed the rock. This gave them a chance to explain a bit more about the significance of the rock to aboriginals, and why they don't like us climbing it. This was the first time we had heard any real reasons why the rock is sacred to them, and we explained this to him. Hopefully, by the time we left he hadn't cursed us!!
